Instant Messaging with user privacy (alternatives to Meta / WhatsApp)

WhatsApp may be widely used, but this app is also highly controversial, due to **privacy concerns** regarding user data and its use by the Meta group (combining Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Meta AI, …).
WhatsApp collects metadata like phone numbers, device information, usage and log information, interaction patterns and merges data across its platforms to build an extensive, deep behavioral and social profile of users for AD TARGETING and other COMMERCIAL PURPOSES. Mandatory Policy Updates are pushed forward on a "Take-It-Or-Leave-It" basis. The recent integration of Meta AI dramatically increases the risk of abuse. Not to mention several legal issues, systemic security failures, unlimited access of many thousands of engineers to user data without proper control and legitimate Data Sovereignty litigation.
Fortunately, better alternatives exist, even some made in Switzerland:
